Interprofessional Simulation Center Achieves Accreditation
(Nov. 11, 2022) The Health Sciences Building Interprofessional Simulation Center achieved Provisional Accreditation from the Society for Simulation in Healthcare on Nov. 11, 2022. Provisional accreditation is granted to simulation programs that meet Core Standards and Teaching/Learning Standards but have not been in operation for two years. While simulation has been active on the Bloomington campus in the School of Medicine, School of Nursing, and IU Health, the reorganization of the simulation programs into a new center started a fresh clock for accreditation eligibility.
The process of accreditation included a detailed point-by-point application that showed how the Center was addressing each standard and an extensive site visit which included interviews with key staff, faculty, educators, and program leadership including its governance committee.
Accreditation shows the Center is meeting or exceeding all standards associated with simulationn excellence. The Center will be applying for full accreditation in 2023 once the department hits the two-year mark.
